Our 4th graders are working hard to complete their 3rd quarter book reflections due April 2nd! I continue to encourage 20 minutes of reading each day, even over Spring break! Reading minutes can be snuck in during car rides, plane rides, by the beach, or on the couch. I want students to know the importance of reading often, but also enjoying it! Over Spring break, your child's homework is to take a reading “shelfie” of the books that they read over break! This assignment is to encourage your child to get excited about reading over their Spring break, so have fun and be creative! If students are unable to take a picture with their books at home, they can bring their books in on Monday after Spring break and have their picture taken at school. Pictures can be emailed to me at [email protected]. As students prepared for our Midwest Region test last week they completed a Goose Chase scavenger hunt review! Students worked in pairs to complete various missions that included taking pictures, typing in answers, and video recording their answers that related to our study of the Midwest. On Wednesday, students got to experience the music of the Minnesota Orchestra and learn about texture and instruments as it connected to the Winter Olympics. Thank you Mrs. Hackbarth for allowing our 4th graders to have this opportunity!
The last few weeks in reading students have been working on summarizing text. Students learned a specific strategy (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then) to help them when writing a summary. Ask your student about this strategy and have them show you the actions to go with it! The photos above show our afternoon reading class working with a partner to summarize a story using a graphic organizer.
